50 Years of LEGOs

LEGO Bricks

This years marks the 50th anniversary of LEGOs, those colorful building blocks which every nerds childhood was filled with. BusinessWeek has a fascinating article on how LEGOs are manufactured. A fun read for those who spent many hours building (and destroying) grand structures and spacecraft.

And if my brother is reading this, feel free to ship the foot locker full of LEGOs to me. I’ll take good care of them.

Yes! I saw the article. Actually, we live very close to Enfield, CT where there is a factory. I haven’t had the pleasure of going there to visit yet. Perhaps this has imspired me to take the children. Samuel is a ‘mini’ of Adrian and you! Legos everywhere! The latest craze is the Star Wars Collection. I can’t imagine three boys being into it!

Not to be a stickler, but the proper plural of LEGO is LEGO.

Visiting a LEGO factory would be great fun. One day I would also love to get down to LEGOland in Southern California. Imagine a whole amusement park dedicated to LEGO.

Not to rain on your parade, Doug, but here’s the info I found on the proper use of LEGO:

The word ‘LEGO’, when used as a noun, should only refer to the company that makes the product. Otherwise ‘LEGO’ is supposed to be used as an adjective. Thus, when referring to the pieces, neither ‘lego’ nor ‘legos’ is correct… rather one should say: ‘LEGO bricks’ or ‘LEGO pieces’ or whatever

As for the misuse in the post? Blame it on BusinessWeek.
