Visiting the GrandKids: Mount Rainier
For day 2 of GrandMom and GrandDad’s visit to Seattle, we took them to see that icon of the Pacific Northwest, Mount Rainier. The windstorm last November did some serious damage to the park, and there are still roads closed. So, we made our way down through Eatonville and up to Paradise.
Karin and GrandMom took care of packing a picnic lunch for us to enjoy once we got there. Sandwiches, chips, apples, and drinks. We found a table outside the museum and sat down to eat. Well, the adults did. The kids were far to interested in what remained of the snow. They did finally get their opportunity to go climb on it and throw snow/ice at each other. Even GrandMom got in on the fun, trying to climb up the slippery ice pack.
With hijinks out of the way, we headed inside to stroll through the museum. Or, if you 2 or 3 years old, run through the museum with Daddy in pursuit. The kids and I made it up to the observation level lickety-split and the kids killed the time waiting for the slow pokes by running around and climbing on the furniture.
After everyone had made it to the top and enjoyed the view, we headed back down. A stop at the snack bar for some ice cream, and a trip through the gift shop rounded out the visit and then it was time to head for home. Once again, the ride home was very quiet as everyone else took a nap and I drove home in near silence. Don’t get that much anymore when the kids are around.
