Update on Opa
Karin, the kids, and I drove up to the hospital after work this evening to see Opa and Oma. They’ve moved him out of ICU and into the regular hospital ward, which means he can get up and walk around now. When we arrived the room was full. Everyone from his small group had driven up to see him. Adding us in made the room very full. And very warm. 14 people generate a lot of heat.
Opa spent the time explaining what had happened and some of the information he had learned from the doctors and nurses. And Oma chimed in with some advise of her own. Karin and I had our hands full keeping the kids out of trouble. There isn’t much for a 2 year old and a 4 year old to do in the hospital. Especially ones who are full of energy and just want to run.
We left at 9 as visiting hours finished. Oma rode home with us leaving Opa to spend the night at the hospital. She’s going back to work tomorrow. Then, she’s taking Thursday off to be at the hospital with Opa. I’m taking Thursday and Friday off to be there as well. And my brother is flying in from overseas on Thursday afternoon. Between all of us, we should be able to trade of sitting by his bed during the recovery period after the surgery.
The doctors have said that it is a minimum of 2 days in ICU after the surgery, plus another 2 to 3 in the hospital before they would even consider letting him come home. And, once he’s out of the hospital, there is no driving for 6 weeks. So, we’ll be having to figure out how to coordinate work schedules so that everyone can get to work on time.
Thank you for all your prayers and please continue to lift all of us up. God bless. To keep up with updates, you can sign up to get an e-mail when the site changes.

Please tell Linda and John that Warren Baptist is praying John and the family. I worked with your mom at Martinez Elementary and now I am a secretary at Warren. I will stay in touch through this site and your e-mails.
