Summer Movie Schedule

May 19th, 2007 | jchaager | Entertainment

With Memorial day fast approaching, the summer movie scene is in full swing. There are a few movies that Karin and I would like to get to see on the big screen. But we’ll have to figure out when we can get a babysitter for the Munchkins and get an evening out. What’s out there this summer? Let’s take a look.

Spiderman 3

So, this movie has already opened, and its been getting mixed reviews. At some point we’ll see this movie. Just not sure whether it will be in theaters or on DVD.

Shrek 3

We’ve seen both previous Shrek films, and they are quite entertaining. But we saw both of them on DVD, so the likelihood of us catching this in the theater is pretty low.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

We have been anticipating this movie since we watched Pirates 2 on DVD a couple months ago. The ending of the previous movie was a none to subtle setup for the third movie. But the first two films were so much fun, that we’re expecting more of the same from this one. Looking forward to seeing it on the big screen.

Transformers

Michael Bay brings the cartoon robots to the big screen in their first live action movie. The translation to the big screen is quite interesting. If you haven’t seen the trailers or production stills for it, check it out.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

I haven’t seen the original Fantastic Four movie. And I only vaguely remember Saturday morning cartoons from decades ago. This movie, like the original, will likely be a miss on our list.

Ratatouille

The latest film from Pixar, on the the surface it looks like a lame premise. After all, who wants to watch a movie about a rat. But then, the same argument could made for Bugs Life, Toy Story, and Cars. If you’re wondering what the movie is about, Pixar has released a 9 minute preview of the film that introduces you to Remy and sets the stage for the story. Check it out. This is a definite must see.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Nothing is likely to be bigger this summer than Harry Potter. And the movie has been strategically positioned to coincide with the release of the final Harry Potter book. So, if you are not a rabid fan who must read the book on the day it comes out, then don’t see this film on the opening weekend. Wait until the second weekend when all the fans have their noses buried in the new book.

Quite the list of potential blockbusters. Given our schedules this summer, we’ll probably only be able to make 2 or 3 of these movies. We’ll have to negotiate what we want to see, but Pirates is likely as is Harry Potter.
