Back in the Swing of Things

For the first time in several months, I’ve been able to get my hands dirty at work doing down in the trenches coding. With the release of Skoot back at the beginning of the year, my hands on coding slowly dwindled as I moved back into my management role. I spent the time doing requirements analysis, helping design features, and keeping track of the other projects going on. Scattered amongst all this was the management tasks of sitting in meetings.

But, as we push toward our next big deadline, resources have gotten stretched tight, leaving me the opportunity to get back into the trenches. These last two days I have been able to dedicate almost 80% of my time to developing code. It’s been a great feeling. You have that sense of accomplishment at the end of the day when you’ve finally overcome the obstacles and gotten your code functioning.

I’m hoping that I’ll continue to have the opportunity to stay in the code as I move forward. It’s very rewarding.
