Software Activation Sucks
Charles Miller over at The Fish Bowl recounts his experience dealing with a sudden inability to use the copy of NewsFire that he had purchased several years ago. It seems that the author decided to suspend his license because he “activated [his] single-user license from a suspiciously wide variety of locations.” Needless to say, this didn’t sit well with him. And it wouldn’t sit well with me either.
This kind of behavior doesn’t go by quietly when Microsoft does it. What makes the author of NewsFire think it’ll fly when he does it. I’ve looked at using NewFire before, but I certainly won’t be looking again.
Note: I specifically didn’t link to NewsFire as I don’t have any intention of supporting such anti-user behavior. If you want to find it, a quick Google search will locate it without difficulty.
