Where Have all the Photos Gone?

March 17th, 2007 | jchaager | photography

Some of you might be wondering where all the photos have gone? I haven’t posted any pics really since December. The short answer is that I haven’t had a whole lot of time. With work, family, and the Easter production at church, I’ve been swamped and haven’t had much free time to practice my hobby.

This last weekend, though, I finally got an opportunity to break out the Alien Bees and the camera in the garage and shoot a few hundred frames. I’ve had an opportunity to do a first pass through all the photos and do a little bit of retouching on the best of them. But I haven’t gotten them posted yet. Look for them in the next week.

Speaking of photos, I finally got around to finishing my application to iStockPhoto to be a contributor to their collection. Once approved, I scoured through the 11,000+ images in my collection and found a handful that I thought would make good stock photos. I uploaded a dozen to the site, 8 of which were accepted.

In case you don’t know, iStockPhoto is a site where you can go to purchase royalty-free images for use in your newsletters, magazines, graphic designs, and such. For a one time fee (between $1 and $10 depending on the size of the image) you get rights to use the photo pretty much however you want (within certain limitations). For every image of mine that someone purchases, I get 20% of their purchase price. So far, after only 2 weeks, I’ve have $1.55 on the sale of 3 images.

Which brings me back to the photo shoot in the garage. I decided I’d give myself a go at shooting still lifes/stock photos of fruit. So a quick trip to the grocery store saw me arriving home with a few apples, a couple oranges, some tomatoes still on the vine, and a bunch of grapes. I shot various arrangements of the fruits and ended up with 4 that I liked. I hope to finish cleaning them up and get them posted to iStockPhoto this weekend. Once that is done, I’ll post them here for you all to see as well.

No new photos of the kids have been forthcoming as it’s been to cold and wet outside to try to get them in their preferred habitat. And both kids seem to have grown out of sitting patiently on the set and letting daddy take pictures of them. I’ll see what I can do over the next few weeks to get new shots of the family.
