Why are Bush and Kerry so Diametrically Opposed?

October 20th, 2004 | jchaager | news

In last weeks Tacoma News Tribune, there was an interesting editorial that took a look at why Bush and Kerry are so diametrically opposed on foreign and domestic policy.

In the current issue of The Weekly Standard, Adam Wolfson argues that the foreign policy debate between George Bush and John Kerry is really a conflict between two values: freedom and internationalism.

In the end, the differences between the two candidates are summed up as follows:

Bush, the conservative, conceives of a flexible, organic, spontaneous order. Kerry, the liberal, conceives of a more rationalist, planned and managed order.

Which of these two approaches is the correct one? Come Nov 2, we can each decide.
