Surviving the Heat
Summer has arrived in Washington state, and with it have come the warm temperatures. Yesterday, it was up into the 80s. For those living down south, that might not sound so bad, but keep one thing in mind. You have air conditioning.
Up here in Seattle, A/C is a luxury in your house. After all, most of the year its cold and rainy, so why have A/C for the few days a year when it gets warm? You can just open the windows and enjoy the breeze. Well, our place doesn’t have enough windows to make a difference, and our large front window faces west and gets the full force of the afternoon sun, so it gets mighty hot.
So, how do we beat the heat? We do what any self-respecting person does. We leave the house and go visit stores with air conditioning. Yesterday, we hopped in the car, went to McDonalds and grabbed some lunch, then headed down to CompUSA. Nothing I really wanted to see, but it was cool.
Then it was back on the road for a drive up to Marysville to the “super” WalMart. We must have spent 2 hours wandering around in there before we checked out and headed back home. Once there, we headed out onto the back porch, which was now in the shade, and enjoyed the cooler evening weather out there.
After dinner, it was time to do some work. I cleaned off the blacony and threw everything away. Karin did some cleaning in the extra bedroom, and we carried several bags of dontation stuff downstairs. We may yet get the extra bedroom cleaned out and setup for the baby. Maybe if it cools off a bit, we’ll have more energy.
