Computing Nirvana Has Arrived

topicapple.gifComputing Nirvana has finally arrived! At 9:30am yesterday morning, the Apple Store at Bellevue Square opened its doors. Since I’m not as obsessed as those people who were at the mall at 6:30 yesterday, I waited until a more reasonable hour to get up and take Karin down to the new store. We arrived at the mall around 11am and got in line outside the store. As with the other Apple Store openings, there was a line to get into the store. Unlike other grand openings, the wait in line was only about 30 minutes.

It was fun listening to everyone in line discussing their Macs and the new iTunes Music Store. Even funnier was watching the people stop to ask the security guards what the line was for, then walk away shaking their heads at “those crazy Apple folk”.

We finally made it into the store about 11:30 and wandered through looking at the displays. It was very crowded, so we just looked at the machines. I’ve played with most of Apple’s current line of laptops, so that wasn’t a big deal for me. We made our way to the back of the store to look at the small softare section, then headed back to the front, where I promptly attached myself to a 12″ PowerBook and began extolling its virtue’s to my wife. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the funds available to get myself one. (If you would like to contribute to the “Get John a 12″ PowerBook fund”, please contact me.) After about 20 minutes or so inside the store, I wiped the drool off the PowerBook, got our free T-shirts, filled out the contest entry forms, and headed back out into the mall.

Karin really enjoyed the outing, and liked the store. If you haven’t been to an Apple Store, you really should make the trip, just to contrast the clean lines with the jumbled mess that is CompUSA.

It was so cool to visit the Apple store and see all the things Apple sells all in one place. Now when we need (need being the word at this time) something for our iBooks we can take a little ride to the store to pick it up instantly instead of having to order it online and then wait for it to come in the mail.
