SonicBlue Filing for Bankruptcy

March 21st, 2003 | jchaager | technology

Well, according to Reuters, SonicBlue is filing for bankruptcy. SonicBlue is the maker of the ReplayTV DVR, the best DVR on the market. It includes such wonderful features as the ability to skip commercials, and share recorded programs between ReplayTV boxes. My wife and I have had ours for about 6 months, and it’s amazing how quickly you get used to it.

Once you’ve been freed from the tyranny of network scheduling, you’ll never want to go back. No longer do you have to skip nights out with friends to catch the latest episode of ER. Forget fumbling with the VCR trying program it or remembering to put in a blank tape. Simply select the program from the channel guide, tell your Replay to record, and go on with your life. When you’re ready to watch, your programs are there waiting for you. I simply can’t imagine life without my ReplayTV.

Before we lose all hope though, there is a silver lining. SonicBlue has announced that they are selling their ReaplyTV line to D&M, a leading Japanese electronics manufacturer. Here’s hoping that they keep everything up and running with no interruptions to the service.
